Objects needed:

• a loaf of bread

• a box of crackers (sealed)

• an egg

• a bowl

• a small box

• some marbles

• a can of peas

• a can of corn

• a can opener

• a paper sack

To prepare:

Put the marbles in the box. Carefully remove the label from both cans. Put the corn label on the can of peas. (Set the can of corn and "peas label" to the side. You will not need them for this lesson.) Put all of the items in the paper sack.

What is faith? Faith is believing and trusting.

1) Hold up bread. What do you think is in this bag? Bread? Why do you think it's bread? Because the bag says bread? Because you can see the bread though the bag? Are you sure there is bread in here? Do you have faith there is bread in here? Open the bread and give each child a piece to taste to confirm it is bread.

2) Hold up a box of crackers. What do you think is in here? Crackers? Why do you think there are crackers in here? Because it has a picture of crackers on the box? Do you have faith there are crackers in here? Do you think someone might have put something else in this box? You may have doubt there are really crackers in here doubt is the opposite of faith. Do you have faith there are crackers in here? Open the box and give each child a cracker to taste and verify they are indeed crackers.

3) Hold up the egg. What do you think is inside of this? There's no picture and you can't see through it. (Have the children describe what it will look like.) If you have FAITH the inside of this egg is slimy with a yellow yoke, raise your hand. (Crack open the egg into the dish.) You were right. That's what was in here.

4) Hold up the small box with marbles and shake it. I put some marbles in this box. (Shake the box.) Who has faith that if I open the box there will be marbles in here? Raise your hand if you do. (Open the box and show the children the marbles.) There are marbles in here.

5) Hold up the can of peas that has the "corn label" on it. What's in this can? What does it look like? (Let the children describe the corn.) Raise your hand if you have FAITH there is corn in this can. (Use the can opener to open the can and act surprised when you see the peas.) This isn't corn! This has peas in it! How could that have happened? Maybe somebody switched the labels. Maybe somebody put the wrong label on at the factory

You see, people make mistakes. Sometimes they do things that are wrong. Jesus never makes mistakes. He never does anything wrong. We can have FAITH in Jesus. All He says and does is true. We can trust and believe in Him without doubting. Our friends might tell us something untrue. Even our parents might make a mistake. We can always have FAITH in Jesus. We can trust and believe Him without doubting.
